ECON4319: Economics at Work: The Wealth of African Nations

This undergraduate course will apply tools and methods from economics to provide insights and answer big questions about the past, present, and future wealth of African countries. Topics include the colonial origins of development, economic growth, education and health, gender, family and social norms, the economics of conflict, the effects of foreign aid, the role of industrial policy, trade, and climate, demographic transition, socio-political institutions, foreign debt, and inflation. The objective is to equip students with the analytical tools to explore and understand African economies' dynamic, multifaceted nature.
